Some sports fans remember the championship moments. Others remember the backup point guard, the sixth-round draft pick, the stadium a team played in twenty years ago, and the exact season a record fell.
Ball Up Top is for all of them.
Ball Up Top is a collection of daily sports trivia games and puzzles designed to test different kinds of sports knowledge. Some games reward speed. Some reward patience. Others ask you to make connections, recognize careers, build a lineup, or survive as long as you can.
The idea is simple: if you know ball, prove it.
A new lineup of sports games every day
Ball Up Top is not one quiz with a different coat of paint. Each game has its own rules, rhythm, and way of testing what you know.
The current lineup includes ranked games, casual puzzles, and games made for playing with friends.
Ranked games
Ranked games affect your Ball IQ, an Elo-style sports knowledge rating that changes based on your performance and the difficulty of the game.
- Shot Clock is quick-fire trivia against a moving clock.
- Grid Iron challenges you to solve nine football clues across a compact board.
- Top 5 asks you to identify and correctly order five answers from a larger pool.
- Hot Streak keeps going until your first wrong answer ends the run.
- Crossover is a 3x3 sports grid built around intersecting row and column clues.
- Rosters gives you progressive clues about an athlete, rewarding you for solving with less help.
Every format measures something different. A player who dominates historical rankings might struggle with timed questions. A grid specialist might know unexpected player-team connections. Ball Up Top gives every kind of sports fan a way to show what they know.
Casual games
Not every game needs a rating attached. Casual games track your progress and profile stats without changing your Ball IQ.
- Letterman is a college sports crossword built from daily clues.
- Letterman XL expands the crossword with more clues and connections.
- Draft Picks turns sports memory into a draft-board puzzle.
These games are designed for players who want to slow down, work through a puzzle, and enjoy the solve at their own pace.
What is Ball IQ?
Ball IQ turns sports knowledge into a rating you can follow over time.
Every player starts at 1000. After you complete a ranked game, Ball Up Top compares your result with the expected result for that board's difficulty. Beating expectations raises your rating. Missing them can lower it.
That means your score is not based only on whether a board looked easy or hard. Question difficulty, your expected performance, and your actual result all matter.
You also build sport-specific ratings. Strong performances in NBA games can raise your NBA IQ, while NFL, MLB, NHL, soccer, golf, tennis, and college sports results develop their own profiles. Your overall Ball IQ sits above them as a broader measure of how well you know sports.

Built for the group chat
Sports knowledge is more fun when somebody else thinks they know more.
Every daily result gives you something to compare, debate, or send to a friend. The Ball Up Top app also includes group experiences made for playing together:
- Up Top lets one player hold the phone up while friends give clues to help them name the athlete.
- 1v1 Wheel brings head-to-head sports matchups into iMessage.
Whether everyone is in the same room or arguing from different cities, Ball Up Top gives the group chat a new score to settle.
Play your way
You do not need to master every sport or every format. Pick the games that match how you think:
- Want something fast? Start with Shot Clock.
- Like grids and connections? Try Crossover or Grid Iron.
- Know rankings and record books? Play Top 5.
- Trust your consistency? See how long you last in Hot Streak.
- Prefer clues and deduction? Try Rosters.
- Want a slower puzzle? Open Letterman, Letterman XL, or Draft Picks.
New games give you a reason to return each day, while the archive lets you revisit previous challenges and take on harder puzzles.
Know ball? Prove it.
